Wedding dress - Day 1!

*Claire Pettibone

I have always had this image of me in a Short bodice A-line wedding dress with lots of soft-blow-in-the-wind layers of fabric. I wanted fuss free and understated.
My Mom kept saying a longer fitted bodice would work better as my waist is my best feature (I kept asking ‘What waist?’) And so on Saturday we set of to try on wedding dresses.

First pit stop was a catastrophe. I did not get the - only thin people can shop here memo – and none of the dresses would zip up. The one that did zip up made my boobs look like pancakes. Not cool. So I was close to tears. I feared this all along, looking horrible in everything.
Seriously regretting the Kit Kat from the previous night we set off to the next Bridal pit stop – Bride & Co. So many dresses, so many diamond wearing future brides frantically fitting dress after dress. Where is the Kate Hudson standing on pedestal glowing in Vera Wang with onlookers sipping champagne? Where’s my freaking champagne! So far dress shopping was nothing like in the movies.

Tried on my pretty Grecian A-line dress and looked like I was twice my normal size. I might as well be wearing bag with a bow. Very depressed, I agreed to try on the tight longer length bodice. Voila! I had a waist. Who knew! Suddenly my hips looked smaller, my boobs looked great and I had to admit, once again mom knew best. So I am still doing whimsical/Bohemian understated and fuss free but the style has changed a little bit.

To be continued....

  1. :X You should post pictures of your dress. I love reading but I think my brain responds more powerfully to pictures. Or maybe I'm just odd.
